Greetings, Naselle-Grays River Valley School District parents, guardians and staff:

Please read the email below regarding the opportunity to host exchange students during the 2026-27 school year. If you have any questions, please direct them to CETUSA representative, Shawna Busey. Have a great weekend.

I am reaching out to educators in the community regarding three awesome high school exchange students hoping to come to our area for their 2026-27 exchange year. Would you be willing to pass this email along to your friends/families? Perhaps there is a family who would love to be a volunteer host family for one of our students. Although they don't arrive until late August, I am working to connect them now with a local family.

Our students speak English, have their own health insurance, and will have their own finances to cover all personal expenses. A host family simply welcomes them into their home as one of their own. 🙂 A volunteer host family can be a single adult or married couple, with or without children of any age. Students will attend the high school closest to their host family so they can take school transportation, carpool, or walk/bike depending on the distance.

Here are notes from our students:

Hungary: Dora (F) will be in 10th grade and specifically requested to stay in Washington State! I am a 16-year-old girl who enjoys an active lifestyle and new experiences. I have been playing tennis since kindergarten, and I also like playing basketball and going on long walks, so sports are an important part of my life. I also do Pilates, which helps me stay strong and balanced. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am open to new things and very excited about my upcoming school year in Washington!

Spain: Jorge (M) will be in 11th grade. Nice to meet you, my name is Jorge. I’m a positive and hardworking student, curious and who really enjoys meeting new people. In my free time, I play soccer - I’m a big fan, not only of playing but also of following matches and sports events online or on TV. I also like cooking, trying new recipes, and discovering food from different places. I enjoy traveling too, especially when it helps me learn about other cultures. I’m really happy to have this opportunity because it will help me improve my English and meet people from other countries. People describe me as friendly, responsible, and someone who is always willing to help. I’m excited for everything I will learn and for all the experiences I’ll have during this exchange.

Italy: Milena (F) will be in 12th grade. Hello, my future host family! I am a tidy and creative girl and am interested in trying many new things. I love animals, especially dogs, cats and horses. Recently I learned to sew with a sewing machine and I learned to alter and repair clothes which is really fun! I really enjoy cooking and baking. I especially like baking cookies, cakes, but also typical Italian plates, for example tiramisu, which is my favorite dessert. I cannot wait to meet you and be part of your family. Thank you for considering to host me.

If you are interested in hosting one of these great kids, you can start your Host Family Application. We also have a local coordinator in the area that will be you and your students’ support throughout the length of their stay! I look forward to hearing from you,

Sincerely,

Shawna Busey

Today, the Natural Resources class released about 100 Salmon Fry in the creek next to the school property. The Naselle fish hatchery provided the class with about 100 eggs (thanks John Larson). Students only removed 1 dead egg for the cooled aquarium in the classroom, making it a hatch rate close to 99%. Students watched the eggs hatch into Yolk-sac fry and then develop into Free-swimming fry. Today, the students released them back into the wild with hopes that in the next 3 to 5 years they will return.

This week we are celebrating our amazing educational support staff. Our school district is blessed with some of the best transportation and food service people in the state. Our educational support staff cheerfully and faithfully perform some of our most essential duties. They are also some of our most unsung heroes and the glue that holds our school together. We could not function without them. Be sure to show your appreciation for these exceptional people.

Hello, Naselle-Grays River Valley School District families! We hope that you have enjoyed your midwinter break This is just a reminder that tomorrow we will kick off our REACH Program Passport Club with our 2nd and 3rd grade students. K-1 students will start on on Tuesday and 4-5 students will start on Wednesday.

In order to have your child participate, please fill out the enrollment form that your student brought home and return it to the office (along with a note to stay after school), or download one from the link below and email it to kelsi.nelson@naselleschools.org. At the present time, families will need to provide their own pick up until alternate transportation arrangements to designated drop off locations can be made.

Great news! The roof leak in our school building has been repaired, and the project is officially complete.

Even better, this important improvement was fully funded through an OSPI grant, meaning it came at no cost to our local taxpayers.

A1 Roofing was selected through the district’s formal bid process, and we appreciate their role in helping complete this needed project for our school.
