SEPTEMBER 2005

WELCOME BACK

Welcome to the 2005-06 school year. Thanks to the custodial staff and summer help who have prepared the building for the opening of our new year. This included tile replacements, painting, and other general maintenance.

We have added many new faces to both our student and staff populations. New teachers this fall include Danielle Erickson (4th grade), Susan Hardesty (6th grade), Marc Graton (Business Ed), and Rhiana Jacot, who will be teaching one period of Journalism. Sheena McNulty joins our Para-educator staff in the Learning Assistance Program (LAP).

There are many new students who will be added to the various classes. Although we lost a large senior class and are taking in a smaller kindergarten group, our enrollment numbers appear to be exceeding last year’s count. Please help us welcome the newcomers into our school and community.

GYM SHOES REQUIRED

Have you seen the new gym floor? On June 13th, the demolition of the old gym floor began and after two months it has been replaced with a top quality athletic performance and high quality floor. In an effort to maintain the quality of this floor, we are requiring all students to wear gym shoes during all recesses and PE classes. Students will be required to change their shoes for gym use; therefore they should have shoes to be kept at school.

If you have any shoes which have been outgrown, but still have some life and wear left in them, we would be happy to find someone who could use them. Just send them to the school and we will distribute them as needed. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to maintain the floor.

MILITARY RECRUITERS

Federal law requires that we provide military recruiters and institutions of higher learning “access to secondary students’ names, addresses, and telephone listings” upon request.

There is also a consent policy which provides that, “A secondary school student or parent of the student may request that the student’s name, address, and telephone listing not be released without written parental consent.” If you would like to withhold your child’s information from military recruiters or institutions of higher learning, please contact Mr. Laine or me, and we will remove your child’s name from the list.

OPEN HOUSE

Open House has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 14th from 6:30-7:30. Drop by to see your child’s classroom and visit with the teaching staff. We look forward to seeing you.

Take some time out to meet your child’s teacher and tour the classrooms.

PICTURE DAY

Individual student pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 15th. Please watch for the informational packets which will be sent home with students.

All sports pictures will be taken after school on Tuesday, September 20th. Packets will be given to coaches and are also available in the high school office. All athletes should bring their uniforms to school on this day.

TITLE I

As a school receiving Title I federal funds, we must meet specific federal guidelines and rules. These rules allow you to learn more about your child’s teachers’ training and credentials. We will be happy to provide you with this information. You may want to know:

  • Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he/she is teaching.
  • Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived.
  • What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds and major(s) or area(s) of concentration.

You may also ask about the Para-educators who are working with your child in reading, writing, and/or mathematics. We can tell you whether the Para-educator working with your child has met state qualifications or licensing requirements.

We are committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to succeed now and in the future. If you have any questions about your child’s teacher or Para-educator, please contact me at 484-7121.
