Dear Key Communicators:

Next Wednesday evening at 7pm we will be offering a weight room safety class at the school.  Mr. Clark, our P.E. teacher will teach the class.  Community members (adults) who complete the class will be given an access code that will allow them to enter the weight room outside of school and sports hours and work out.  The intent of the school board is to have the facility open to the public as much as possible.  There is a real need for fitness opportunities in this area, especially in the winter.  In order to get an access code to the weight room, you will need to take the class, agree to abide by all safety rules, and sign a hold harmless agreement which basically says if you hurt yourself you won’t sue the school.  If this is of interest to you, I encourage you to sign up for the class.  This will be access to the weight room only, and not to the gym.  There will no longer be key access to the gym or weight room once these locks are installed.  By implementing this approach, we hope to make the weight room usage more accessible and safer.  It will also prevent unauthorized use of the facility.  You can sign up by calling Marilyn Strange at the district office (484-7123,) or e-mail her at mstrange@naselle.wednet.edu.

We will offer the class to the first 20 people to sign up.  There will be another class on January 17th at 6:30.

One final tidbit, this is a class for people who are familiar with weight training and wish to use the weight room.  There will be a class offered later this winter for those who need training in using weights.  This is really a class going over rules and expectations of users, not a weight training class.  We are trying this on a trial basis.  I am confident there are people in the community who need a facility such as this to further their health.  We are working together with Grays Harbor College to offer classes at night for the community.  There will be more information later, but they will be Introductory Spanish, Weight Training and Small Engine Repair.

Take care,

Alan Bennett
