Dear Key
Communicators:
In a follow up to
my recent e-mail about the Naselle Grays-River Valley School
District’s WASL results, I have included a slide show for your
information. In case you can’t open the attachment, I have included
the two key slides from the show below. Basically, what we have
found in looking over our data is that the longer we have students
in our district, the better they do. The bar graphs below show the
increase in the percentage of students passing the WASL that have
attended Naselle for at least three years. The progress is really
amazing. It reflects the hard work that students and teachers do
every day to improve.
The reason we look
at data this way is because this is the only real gauge on how well
our staff and students are doing. To look at our data compared to
other schools in the state on a year by year basis is very limited
in value. In a small school, new students can make a dramatic
impact on our scores. Although we need to look at each student’s
results and find out how to help them, we need to look at group
scores differently. By taking a look at only the students we have
had over a longer period of time, we get an honest look at our
progress as an organization. What we found is dramatic. We truly
do have an awesome staff and hard working students. By comparing
the lavender bars on the graphs below with the purple bars, you’ll
notice a steep rise in all areas. These charts are a graphic
demonstration of the progress made by students at Naselle
Grays-River Valley School.
Thank you for all
the support that you as a community give to the school. It is much
appreciated. As you can see, it also pays off.
Sincerely,
Alan Bennett
Superintendent
